Welcome to 2nd quarter!
You're well into Stargirl right now and should be working diligently on your "Be Nice" project.
For your first blog this quarter, I want you to really think about some of the deeper things that are going on in our story. To help you with that, I'm giving you some links to help you connect the story with what's happening locally.
Your assignment:
- Analyze one of the more philosophical quotes from the story by comparing it with real life; share examples (you'll post this analysis as a comment to this post)
- Post at least one question about tolerance and our world, referring to the text
- Answer at least two people's questions THOUGHTFULLY
Websites to help you make comparisons:
Hate crimes in Utah (KSL)
Hate crimes in Utah (Deseret News)
Quotes to consider:
"We did not wake up in the morning and ask ourselves, 'What will Wayne Parr wear today?' or 'How will Wayne Parr act today?" At least, not consciously. But on some level below awareness, that is exactly waht we did. Wayne Parr did not go to football and basketball games, and by and large, neither did we. Wayne Parr did not ask questions in class or get worked up over teachers or pep rallies, and neither did we. Wayne Parr did not much care. Neither did we." (pg. 19-20)
"At the same time, we held back. Because she was different. Different. We had no one to compare her to, no one to measure her against. She was unknown territory. Unsafe We were afraid to get too close." (pg. 26)
"On the contrary, she is one of us. Most decidedly. she is us more than we are us. She is, I think, who we really are. Or were." (pg. 32)
"It was a rebellion she led, a rebellion for rather than against. For ourselves. For the dormant mud frongs we had been for so long. / Kids whose voices had never been heard before spoke up in class. 'Letters to the Editor' filled a whole page of the school newspaper's December edition. More than a hundred students tried out for the Spring Revue. One kid started a cmaera club. Another wore Hush PUppies instead of sneakers. A plain, timid girl painted her toenails kelly green. A boy showed up with purple hair." (pg. 40-1)

They were saying stargirl is very different from everyone but yet in reality they don't know how she is different from everyone. They have no one to compare her to and no one to measure up to her. Someone can become friends with someone totally different from themselves. Some people are afraid to become friends with certain people by the way the act or look. We should not judge a person like that, we should get to know who and what they are and then we will have a better idea of if we want to be their friend or not.
i think that stargirl has changed things that ppl change during hate crimes but instead making a crime she just acts differently.....
The comment on page 32, about Stargirl being who people really are, or were. When you think about it, thats how it is for alot of people. Sometimes we hide who we really are because we are afraid to be different, or are afraid of how people view us. But Stargirl isn't afraid to show her real self.
The kids were giving into peer pressure by acting the same as everyong else, so they wouldn't be treated badly. Then Stargirl showed how it didn't matter if you are different, you just need to be yourself. Then kids started being who they really were and not caring what people thought of them.
The other kids didn't accept Stargirl at first, because she was different. They completely stayed away from her because they didn't know about her, but no one cared to ask her. The kids aren't very tolerant of those who are different. If someone doesn't fit a certain profile, they won't fit in.
Do you think Leo likes stargirl? :)
Why do the kids like Archie? What does he think about Stargirl?
In Emily's comment she said that we should not judge a person like that and we should get to know them. Its true, we shouldn't judge people when we don't really know who they are. Why do you think people are so judgemental?
How has Stargirl impacted the school?
Stargirl said she thought Leo was cute, but Leo doesn't know Stargirl very well. He's probably interested ;)
I think Leo likes stargirl. He shows signs that he does. Just the way he acts when she's around him are signs that he likes her. so I think he does :)
Stargirl impacted their school because she made everyone realize that they can be themselves and what they want to be. They shouldn't care what others think.
Yes Conner, Stargirl has impacted the school. She has inspired other kids to be themselves and be nicer to eachother.
I think that Leo does like Stargirl in some way. She is just so different that he doesnt know how to show it. Stargirl even said that he is cute :)
I think that stargirl is very different from everyone. They don't have anthing to compare her to or to messure he up too. Sometimes we hide who we really are because we are afraid to be different, from others and we want a place where we can fit in. The ppl were giving into peer pressure by acting the same as others.
Stargirl has impacted the school by getting people to show who they really are, not to be afraid of what people think or to care if your different or not. She also made them have more school spirit, to be more involved with their school.
Do you think the Copper Hills is like the high school in the book? Are people here all the same or different?
by them saying that stargirl is very different and they don't want to get to close to her because they have no one to compare her to is a lot like high school!! Because when someone new shows up and you see that they are different than any of your friends or people you see... its kind of hard to just go up and talk to them and try to be friends, because you don't know how they will act or if they will even want to be your friend!!

everyone in the school is basically prejudice against star girl. But they don't want to accept that star girl is changing there life in many different ways. what they don't realize is that they are trying to compare one persons personality when the rest of them no matter what they say they are all different.
I think the kids like Archie because he is always there for them to teach them about everyday life and give good advice. I think Archie likes Stargirl becuase she is very unique and herself. She is also very friendly to everyone.
Why do you think that stargirl is different from everyone else? Do you think that she knows she is different?
I think the kids like Archie because of how he puts things into perspective for the kids he teaches. And he doesn't judge anyone. He thinks that Stargirl is who people really are inside/ who they were before they conform to the people around them.
In the website Teens and Tolarence, you see two girls who are completly different and are best friends. In the 2nd qoute, Stargirl is different but really doesnt care what people have to say. They can be compared to each other because they both know that they are different and they dont care. They will act exactly like themselves without having to worry about what people say.
Sometimes people act different then they really are because they think that people will make fun of them. Stargirl doesn't care what people think about her. She just acts the same way all of the time. Since she does this it gets other people to just be themselves because they start to not care what other people might think about them or how they could be treated.
-Derrick Von Gunten
Emily said we shouldn't judge people. And the kids in stargirls school shouldn't judge her before they even know her. She's just different and has a different set of standards and beliefs. Same thing happens in real life, but in the real world sometimes it becomes violent. It's kinda dumb that people have to get violent just because someone may believe differently than them. Everyone has the right to how they want their personality. Why do people feel they have to beat or hurt others just because they're different?
Do you think being popular will change stargirl? How?

In alex comment he asked what do you think about stargirl? I think that stargirl is unique and doesn't care what ppl think about her which is cool. That you should be who you are no matter what ppl think.
People in schools these days judge people by the way they look and act. I think that people where afraid to be friends with stargirl beacause they where afraid of what someone who acted different and looked a little different would do to their image. We have fear that people won't like us if we are friends with ertain people. We all should just be nice to eachother!!

Do you think stargirl is making an impact at her school?
I think the kids like Archie because he is always there for them and answers their questions. He is a very easy going guy and really cares about the kids. I think he likes Stargirl because she is herself and very friendly. She cares about everyone and shows it in many different ways.
Do you think that judging people is a trait that every human has? If not, Why?
-Jason Powell
Would students here at Copper Hills go and sit with someone new at lunch and make them feel welcome or would they just ignore the fact that they're even there?
i think that at first people didnt want to get know stargirl because she was different and wore weird clothes and in real life thats how people are sometimes they tend to not talk to people that wear weird clothers or talk different and in a way they judge them without even knowing them, thats not very fair to those being judge, everyone is different and we shouldnt judge people no matter what..
They weren't really being themselves they were following the popular crowd to fit in. She has always been herself and they started to realize that they weren't being themselves. I think they will all start to try to be themselves because of stargirl.
-Justin Beckstrom
Why do some people not accept people who are different?
Do you think Hilary is jealous of Stargirl?
Do you think Stargirl has any brothers or sisters, because she is a very unique person??
Stargirl is different to everyone in the whole school. She is being herself. Even though they dont want to admit it, stargirl is also changing everyone else. She begins to help other people show themselves and not to follow and be like every other person in the school.
Stargirl has given people a reason to cheer up and give some spirit to there school.
The students were afraid of stargirl at first because she is different. They later learned to kind of accept her. I think most people in the world judge other people and then learn to like them.
"At the same time, we held back. Because she was different. Different. We had no one to compare her to, no one to measure her against. She was unknown territory. Unsafe We were afraid to get too close." (pg. 26)
I'm gonna pick the quote everyone else picked so here it goes... I think that when people are different other people don't really want to get close because they may not "trust" new people or the might think they're "weird." People are MEAN in the world of high school and everywhere else. But now they've finally grown to like her so it's good.
To Alex, I think that we don't accept people that are different from us because we're scared because they're not like us. that they don't "fit in" and because we're not used to their differences.
tolerence was very low at this high school to fit in you had to be someone your really not. Then Stargirl came and was more herself then anyone. Of course she was really weird but that didn't matter she was herself. i think she brought everyone out of their shell and now they are being their selves.
Q:Do you think Leo likes stargirl? :)
A: Yes i do because he hasn't put her on hot seat, and he cares about her feelings.
Everyone is saying that stargirl is different from everyone and that they cant cimpare her to anyone or measure he up to anyone. But there is not really any way of knowing why she is different from everyone. Some people might be afraid of her because they dont know how to get to know her or what she is like.Everyone is juding stargirl by what she does and how she looks but noone has the right to judge anyone but themselves.
on shelbys comment it says "do you thimk leo likes stargerl?" i think he is starting to like her. becasue when she came to the school everyone thought she was wierd, but now she is a cheerleader and she is really involved in school. she is making a diffrence in her school by making everyone friends and by making it so she is not in a clique, she is unique, she is unlike anyone they have ever met.
Tara asked if Copperhills is like the school in the book. I think it's both the same and different. It's the same because we do have those people that everyone subconciously wants to be like. But different because it is not just one person in the school. There are a lot of different kids who are looked up to. It's also the same because we have those people who are always being talked about behind their backs whether it something good or something bad... kinda how everyone talks about stargirl even though she may or may not be aware of it.
I'm going to kind of answer my own question here... I agree with Alex, Leo does like her you can tell:) AW cute!
do you think that stargirl is to different
I do not think that leo likes stargirl. I dont think he ever will
I think star girl knows she's different but she knows that her being different changes attitudes of different people that think opposite. If she was just like everyone else in the school there wouldn't be as many people cheering at football games.
To answer nolan's question, I think that Stargirl knows she is different, she doesn't really care. She is more concerned about making other people happy than to care about what other people think.
In these days most kids are scared of many things. We live in trobled times and have some reason to fear. This has givin us reason to fear whenever something new or something we do not understand for example when a new kid comes to school and just looks diffrent kids immediatly start to judge for the better or worst. Just like the story star girl where ahe is diffrent and kids do not even want to talk to the poor girl because she is diffrent. Lucky for her she did not get treated as badly as people in these days who are diffrent. Hate crimes in utah has gone up this year. this tells us that more people are just to judgemental and cruel and domt even want to be near a person that is diffrent. I think people just need to break out of their bubble and get to know the un-known. You never know they could end up to be one of your close friend.
Stargirl i think is a big impact on school. I think this because she is so different she is bringing every one out of their shells.
Why do you think hillary hates stargirl so much?

To comment to haleys question I think people are judgemental because they want to make themselves feel more cool or special than the person they are judging. I think people judge so they can boost their self esteem up in a bad way.
Q:Do you think that judging people is a trait that every human has? If not, Why?
A:I think it's genetically in us to judge things or people we are not familiar with, but we learn to not do it and try not to do it.
everyone is different in some way.I think people just have different defnitions of what different really is.You just need to express yourself in a way that is right for you :)
Star girl is very different from everyone else and no one can really compare to her because she is very different from everyone else. This seems alot like High School to me we live in troubled times and have alot to fear when these kinda things happin. We are all different in many ways and we wont change it and its going to get worse and thats the end of that.
when people are different like star girl is people can be hateful to them because the people in the book don't understand stargirls differences just like in real life when people get hurt because of hate crimes because the person doing the hate crime can't understand.the people had no one to compare stargirl to she was just to different but peoples differences make them special.
Do you think that leo will put stargirl on Hot Seat?
Do you think stargirl is going to change the way the student body is functioning, by following Wayne Parr, to maybe following her example and how she acts?
To answer Shelbie's question, I don't think popularity will change stargirl because she is true to herself. She doesn't care what the popular kids think of her, so I don't think she will change.
I think they treat Stargirl different because they are not use to it. I think as the year goes on they will start to like her. They will see that been different is a good thing not a bad thing.
Jonathan Valenzuela
I think hillary hates stargirl so much because stargirl is getting so much attention and she is used to being the center of attention at their school.
why do you think Star Girl goes by Star Girl
How and why do you think Stargirl has impacted the school so much?

If a girl like Star Girl came to Copper Hills do you think that she would be accepted or cast out?
-Justin Beckstrom
So do you think stargirl is crazy different cause i have seen alot of crazy's in this school?
To answer Bryan I think Leo will fall into the pressure and put star-girl on Hot Seat
To answer jason's question I do think that judging is a trait that everyone has. I think that weither we are judging people out of spite or jealousy everyone tends to do it once in a while.

to dani's question i think that stargirl will change it. She has already changed some people and she has also kind of showed that its okay to be different
to answer kelli i think hilary does not like ster girl ecause she is scared of change and just wants things to stay as they are.
I think kids like archie because he is easy to talk to and does not judge them for the things they do or how they look! Also they can go to him for advice and can listen to him because he is so down to earth!

What do you think Star girls socks look like
conner stargirl has show people at the school to forget what others think and be themselves.
Obviously, both relate to the main theme of this quarter (Hysteria and Tolerance). Some kids seem to have a low tolerance rate towards others whether it be jelously or hatred people seem to dislike you. Many people in history try to be nice to everyone and be a role model to others (Bob Marley and Ghandi). It appears that no matter how many friends you make, it's not humanly possible to have everyone like you, there will always be someone, somewhere who will dislike you just for your personality. Star Girl is a perfect example of this. She is nice to everyone and keeps to herself but just because people think that shes diffrent, everyone lables her as "Creepy or Weird". Over the course of the book people change their opinions becasue they begin to understand who she is and what she stands for.

Do you think Hilary will change her opinion about Stargirl?
DO you think star girl makes some mean oat-meal cookies hmmmmm.
To answer Derrick I think that it is because she is so happy and out going and they realize she is herself and they want to be more like her.
-Justin Beckstrom
on jason's question about do you think everyone has the trait about judging people why or why not? i dont think its a trait. everyone judges people and says oh they are so ugly, or they were pink to much they must be a prep, they are to involved in school activitys they are wierd, dont talk to him he is a sluffer because he is never here so he must be a slufer. you know that saying DONT JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER???? i think we should make a new one that says DONT JUDGE A PERSON BY THERE LOOKS, CLOTHES, AND FRIENDS!!!!!! why do we gudge people? so we can feel better about our self? or so we look cool? we all need to be a friend and not dudge anyone!!! its not nice... have you ever been judged? how did it feel? i think that the next time you gudge someone you need to think about how bad it feels when someone has ever gudged you. how did you feel?
would you accept stargirl for who she is?
Do you think Hilary will change her opinion about Stargirl?
Jonathan Valenzuela
Luis i bet she does if shes that fruity then you know there going to be good.
To answer Justin I think that Stargirl would be accepted because the people here would be nice to her just because she is different and the people here like her because she is different.
-Derrick Von Gunten
I read the passage on hate crimes in Utah. Hate crimes against people because of their sexual orientation has grown. Many people hate and hurt these people because they are different. This compares to the quote in Star Girl, "At the same time, we held back. Because she was different. Different. We had no one to compare her to, no one to measure her against. She was unknown territory. Unsafe We were afraid to get too close." (pg. 26)
I think people are afraid of people who are different. They judge people so irrationally. If they got to know the person, they would probably like them.
The kids are cautious of stargirl, because rather than thinking she is different from everyone else, they should think that they are different from her. Stargirl is just being herself. She is the only person being true, everyone else tries to be the same to fit in. On page 32 it describes this idea by saying everyone is afraid to be themselves.
In this book Star Girl she is very different from all the kids at her highschool. But how can they really know how differnet she is if they never get to know her and find out about her. they are just making their judgments off of what they see. I think if star girl came here to copper hills a lot of poeple would be accepting, but she would still get made fun of. But to me copper hills would accept her.
Karlee Brown
I think the reason a lot of people don't want to get too close to star girl is because she's different, and there afraid if be her friend other kids in the school will label them the same way they label star girl. Its not that they don't want too get to know her its because of the peer pressure of the other kids in the school.
I read the article about positive and negative peer presure. The quote that talks about how star girl influenced the kids at school to be themselves, and allowing them to be comfortable in thier own way. She was a positive peer to others because she helped the students realize it's ok to be themselves.

Looking at the Hate crimes in Utah is kinda scary. I feel bad for all those people. But in Stargirl nobody's actually done anything to Stargirl except for Hillari who was acting like she was gonna kill Stargirls rat.
Why is Leo so interested in star girl?
Stargirl is crazy because she dresses funny and people judge her on her appearence which is one of the stereotypes we have everyone just labels everyone so we should all get along and except each other! I think everybody should just get along and be nice to every one we meet. And if you dont have something nice to say dont say it at all! But she's definately crazy.
Stargirl leads a revolution of good works and helps the community as a whole. She helps the school become a better place because soon everyone is doing what they want. Pg.32 says that everyone stars clubs and becomes what they have always wanted to be but they were to scared too become before she showed up.
Stargirl is a very unique girl. She is different from everyone else but she doesnt mind. SHes just acting herself. The other kids at school are just doing what everyone else is doin.In reality, those kids are just fakes. But thats what they thought about stargirl at the very beginning. You shouldnt judge people by the way they look or act. To them, its what makes them happy, Not other people. If you were wierd like stargirl, you wouldnt wanna be made fun of. So why would you make fun of them? Theyre people too.. just like me and you.

Why does the world look at people who are different and unique as "not normal" or "crazy"?

What the quotes were really talking about is that no one is really who they say they are, no one will be who they want to be and stargirl doesnt care what people think and by her doing that she is what every person in the school wants to be.
In the Teens and Good Works article it talks about how middle school students have opportunities to do good in their communtiy. They look for ways to help fight racism and personal problems. I think this relates to the quote from Stargirl when Leo says she is different. She is different but she is doing nice things for people to help them come together in a more efficent way. She is in a brand new school with brand new people and she is reaching out to them. I think she is helping them do nice things for others just like she is. I think she is trying to bring them together and help them overcome there differences.

To answer Shelbe I think that Leo is somewhat interested in star girl because of how different and sweet she is. I think he digs how she gives people presents anonymously.
What the quotes were really talking about is that no one is really who they say they are, no one will be who they want to be and stargirl doesnt care what people think and by her doing that she is what every person in the school wants to be.
In the quote about Stargirl being who we are, or were. I think that is so true, bucause inside everyone I think there is something that wants to stand out, to be different. But at the same time, no one is willing to show that real side of them. To show people that they can be different instead, they just follow the crowd. Why do you think that is?
i think that star girl doesnt care what people think and she wont give into peer presure. she is out to change the world for good. just like all those kids helping in that martin luther king Jr. day celebration.

okay, so I think this quote is saying that she is not afraid of what anybody says or thinks.... and everyone else is. Its saying Stargirl is living for everyone else, because they're afraid to do it themselves. It seems like they all just do what everyone else is doing. Like, they're all afraid to be an idvidual and do what they want to do. They don't like her because she's different, maybe she's just herself and no one can understand that because they're a mirror image of eachother, no differences.... just the same.
hmmm.... this one made me think
:)
So i'm comparing the quote from star girl where they say that they didn't have anybody to compare her because the fact that she is so different and acts out in weird ways. The Developing Tolerance reminds me of this because it talks about "tolerance is accepting variety or difference."
and that is exactly what's going on with star girl she is very different from all the other kids in the school and does thing's differently also. so thats why I compared that to Tolerance.
they were saying that star girl is very different. but yet they dont know how diffferent she really is they have nobody to compare to her. i think i would date her tooooo
ashton
I think that stargirl is really differnt from everyone. She dose not care what people think about her. Here at other schools people would be mean to her because of the way she acts. There are many people at schools that are differnt and they dont care that much that is what makes them so differnt.
Shadyn VanDeBrake

i think that when others are different, people don't think that they are cool to hangout with. so we ignore them and don't become friends with them. because they are weird and don't have the same similarities as you. so we don't want to be seen and want to get know them even though they could have some similar stuff.

I think that before stargirl arrived at their school, Leo and all of the other kids were living their lives under peer pressure. They all try to be like one another and fit in with all the rest of the people in the school. When stargirl showed up, she showed everyone that is is okay to be yourself and do your own things. After all the kids realized this they started to do their own thing without the pressure of their peers.
answering conner's question:how has star girl impacted the school?
Star Girl has impacted the school in different ways. She has impacted the school spirit tremendously. She makes people feel important and loved. She has also made people realize that hillary doesn't need to control eveyone and that she and her boyfriend aren't the ones to look up to and want to be.
Well when i was reading the Teens and Peer Pressure in high school link. and well it says people need to belong and fit in. Does star girl feel that she fits in with everyone else? or does she like that everyone thinks of her as different? In the one quote that says "On the contrary, she is one of us. Most decidedly. she is us more than we are us. She is, I think, who we really are. Or were." I think it means on the inside they all want to be like star girl. but their just to scared to show it on the outside
To answer Conner's question.. Star girl has impacted the school in many ways. People are wanting to just be themselves, and enjoy high school. People are speaking up, wearing differnt clothes, and most of all being themselves.
everyone from school thought that stargirl was very different from everyone else they said "she was not REAL" because she act different from everyone else there was no one to campare her to nobody talked to her everyone just watched her every moved did nothing at all. People are scared to talk to new kids at there school just because they look different or dress different or act different but people dont know that the new kids think that were different just think how they feel about being in a new place with different people they dont know we just need to talk to them see how they are like and were they come from and stuff. then u will find out if you will be there friend.
People are sometimes scared to talk to those who are differnt from them. In the quote, it says that they held back because Stargirl was different. people in real life do this all the time. i know i do it too. this way of thinking can be caused by peer pressure. just like in the ariticle. people don't talk to those who are different from them because they are scared of what others may think.
I believe Stargirl is possitive peer pressure, because she's so different and unique and lots of people like that. So they want to be more like her by wearing clothes that stand out from everyone else.
Even Though Stargirl is different than everyone else, that doesnt mean that people should just start labeling her as different because there is no one to compare to her but there are alot of people who are like this in our world today who are different and people just start ignoring them or neglecting them just because they're "Different"
in the quote where they say they have no one to compare stargirl to thats why they think she is so weird. i think stargirl is the way she is because she doenst want to be catagorized into a group. thats all people do in school is judge each other and just place everyone into a group with the kids that are similair. stargirl is just so different from all the students at the school and thats why she is being judge so hard.
for the first quote about wayne parr, it is definitely a situation that we can all relate to. i'm sure everybody has done something or worn a particular brand of clothing or dressed a certain way simply because someone else was doing it. just as it said in the school paper today, if we want to be just like someone, a lot of how we act and what we wear is impacted by them
I dont believe stargirl is any different than any one person. She just chooses to express herself in different ways. because society believes what is set to believe people decide what is wrong or right. but for stargirl she sets those boundaries for herself not what others think. she is not afraid of the thoughts or actions people might take upon her, because of this she is able to make many new friends and lead by example.
What Stargirl did in the lunch room saying Happy Birthday to someone was nice but out of the blue it seemed. In real life kids does that sometimes saying happy birthday to their friends in the lunch room. It was weird that how Stargirl knew when the kids birthday was.

In the quote about how stargirl is so different they talk about how they have nobody to compare here to. I think thats why everyone is so interested by her. They have never met anyone who is so free and so selfless. To them it is out of their school's social norm. I find the school very unique because they dont spend thier time making fun of stargirl. They actually look up to her.
this is the analises or how ever you spell that im not sure im doing it right but will just go with it but i think with the quote that says star girl is better than all of them it just shows how much of a impact she had and we need to have that kinda impact in our own world we need to be better than we are and become more than we are.
Im responding to shelbie's question. I think he likes he but he is to afraid to show it. He is scared to show it because he is afraid of what his classmates will think. Also since she thinks that he is cute, he will like her even more if he does like her.

I'm responding to Alex's question about Archie. i think they like him because he won't get mad at them like they're parents would. He's an adult figure that's very wise. He is also a nice guy to let kids ask him questions and come around whenever. GERARDO FLORES
Commenting on Alex's question on Stargirl. I think he likes her a lot because he also teached her for a while and regards her highly.

People in schools these days judge people by the way they look and act. I think that people where afraid to be friends with stargirl beacause they where afraid of what someone who acted different and looked a little different would do to their image. We have fear that people won't like us if we are friends with ertain people. We all should just be nice to eachother!!
"On the contrary, she is one of us. Most decidedly. she is us more than we are us. She is, I think, who we really are. Or were." (pg. 32)
I think what Leo, or the author, meant by this was simply that we all get caught up in trends. The trend could be on how we dress, or act; Leo's school is that way. He said, near the beginning of the book that they all acted and dressed the same. I think everyone in his school was just afraid to be different; that was until Stargirl came. Stargirl is not afraid of what people may think of her. She seems to care more about other people's feelings because she shows kindness to everyone she sees. She gives her all into service and kindness instead of being self-concious all the time. She cares. It says in the book that everyone started saying hi or giving smiles and nods to people they didn't even know before. He said that he could feel his school actually pulling together instead of just staying in seperate cliques, or groups. Stargirl helped everyone to realize that they should be proud to be themselves, to be different. "Be you; no one else can."--? So many people in the world are rude to those who are considered different; or not normal. Seriously people, what is normal? Or what is ordinary? In my opinion, there are not two people in this world that are exactly and completely the same. Everyone has different or similar points of view. This doesn't necessarily mean that two people cannot have the same opinions on some things. But, even if you do, it does not mean you are completely the same. You still have your differences. We should be proud to be different; it's not always a bad thing. Be you.
Q.why is stargirl always in a good mooooooooooood?
A.i think she is always in a good is cause she has nothing to worry about!
LAKERS 6-0! Jazz not as good.
To answer *brandi's* qusetion, Do you think stargirl is making an impact at her school? I think she is makeing a huge impact because of how outgoing she is and how different she dresses. I love how she dosn't care what people think and because she was so unique everyone would always talk about her and soon she was the most popular girl in school. And to answer paulina's:) question do you think Hilary is jealous of stargirl? I think she is jealous because everyone is starting to like stargirl more and shes popular now.. and the fact that she took her rat and was about to kill it im sure Hilary is mad at her about something huge, and I'm sure Hilary's mad that she can't make stargirl cry or have a bad day she really wants to hurt stargirl and get her to leave the school.

why does hilary hate star girl
I think deep inside we are all stargirl, but we are afraid to be that person. If we get down to the core every body is different. But we choose to be someone else. Someone who everybody will like not who we really are, not what makes us happy.
I think that stargirl can relate to us because she is different from everyone else. No one else in the school has ever seen anyone like her before. So when Stargirl is being herself she isn't liked because everyone else has a 'mask' on and they aren't being themselves.
yes i think leo likes stargirl
she makes the school unique ish
The quote that talks about how star girl is different and how she IS who they REALLY are. I think Leo is correct in this quote. Star girl is confident in who she is. She is an example to everyone. It also says or "who they were" to me this refers to when you were little and nothing mattered. Everyone was friends and had fun and didnt care what anyone else thought :)
I think that everybody doe not like stargirl because she is different in than everybody else. since she is different than everybody else they think that they cannot acceot her for who she is. Just like hate crimes in utah people hate people for being different so they kill them or whatever they do.

LAKERS! kObE MVP! this is for the haters that say the lakers suck. if the lakers suck why do they have a better record than the JAZZ? you say the jazz dont suck so they lakers must be waaay better.
Why did Stargirl say happy birthday to this kid in the lunchroom? And how did she know it was that kids birthday?

for the quote on page 26 i think that we are all a little against change no matter what kind of change it is, we like how things are the way they always have been. so when change does come we are a little scared and we have no clue how to deal with it. so when stargirl came they all didn't know whether to accept her or act like she wasn't there.

When stargirl came to the school everyone thought stargirl was way weird. Everyone was like everyone at the school and she stood out. People gave into peer pressure and did everything everone else did. She wasnt afriad to be herself. I think she inspires otheres to also do the same.
What does stargirl telling kevin he is cute symbolize?????
"Go Lakers"
i think that copper hills isnt like the school in the book. We have a lot of differnt people here. :)
On the contrary, she is one of us. Most decidedly she is more then we are us. She is, i think, who we really are. Or were.
Just because some one is different doesnt mean that they arent one of us. Stargirl for exapmle is different then every body but is just like every one else. When people are making front of her they are making front of some one that could soon be their friend. she isent like every one else but does thing same things as every teenager. She doesnt really have any friends but gets along with everyone very quickly.
im responding to alex shaaf. i think that the kids like archie because he realates to them. he also tells them and teaches them things they like to know.
"Go Lakers"
i think stargirl is aware of the fact that shes different. duh. she is not afraid to be her. She sings and dances and does service for others. More people should be like her :)
ok bye
how is stargirl related to the real thing? to us we like to see good things that happens in the world. we like to create things to enjoy and having other people have fun with what were doing. stargirl is doing the same thing. she's doing whatever she thinks is best and she making other people happy. she was noticed and everyone likes her. she made her school much better than before when she was not in that school yet. i still don't know how she's knowing other peoples name, birthdays and everything.
Well I think that Stargirl, is more herself than others in various ways. She openly expresses herself and isn't afraid to show compassion to other people. Everybody else is afraid and worry what other people will think about them. Stargirl doesn't really care about what people think of her really.
A quote that I really liked was said by Archie to Leo... "You'll know her more by your questions than by her answers. Keep looking at her long enough. One day you might see someone you know." I really liked this because this makes me think of how we all live today. People who we see for the first time, we make simple judgments that could be completely wrong. The kids at MAHS are saying she's weird and crazy and eventually think she is the most popular girl in school. And Kevin really really wanted to put her on hot seat and the kids are rude to her cause she's a little different. We, as people, need to get to know people before we make judgments. Sometimes we don't HAVE to talk to them. As Archie said, "...Keep looking at them long enough, and maybe you'll fine someone you know."
Can you name one person at our school that resembles stargirl in any way?
and, in which ways do they resemble her?
-Chelsea Stout
"We did not wake up in the morning and ask ourselves, 'What will Wayne Parr wear today?' or 'How will Wayne Parr act today?" At least, not consciously. But on some level below awareness, that is exactly waht we did. Wayne Parr did not go to football and basketball games, and by and large, neither did we. Wayne Parr did not ask questions in class or get worked up over teachers or pep rallies, and neither did we. Wayne Parr did not much care. Neither did we." This quote on page 19 and 20 is very improtant to the story. it shows that people are infuenced by peer presure wether they admit to it or not. this could also be said about copper hills high too.
this book really relates to how our school is.
most people don't just one day decided they want to do something for themselves like stargirl does.
they usually always do it because their friends are doing it.
Too many people in high school cave into peer pressure.
but that's one thing stargirl will never do.
she know how she wants to be.
and she won't let anyone change her.
-Chelsea Stout
star girl is a very strange new girl in school. she's different but yet she makes people happy. in real life from where we are we make many thing that make as happy and have fun. what star girl is doing is that she do what she thinks is right and make things better.
They said that they held back because Stargirl was different and that she was unkown territory. When in reality that is what everyone is, different and unkown territory. No matter what we are all different but some people try not to show it and try to act like other people. So when they see someone not acting like them people think that person is strange so they'll try to stay away from them. We shouldn't judge others just because they are not like us and because they act differently then we do.
this book reminds me of our school and world in many ways. One big reason is that people realy act like that. Another is that there are actually people like stargirl. They might sometimes be considerd weird and things but they are just expressing themselves. Other people still tease them and make fun of them because of it to.
