In the story, white people are segregated from black people. Typically, black people cannot get as good paying jobs, so most of them live in poor living conditions.
Too bad, Walter just wants a better life for him and his family, but it's hard because of the segregation, and the white man keeping the black man down. -Gerardo Flores
Why can't black people get good, or atleast descent jobs at this point. They are just as good for everything as white people are, if better, because especially at this time, they had more determination to get a job and show the world what they could do to show everyone that they were no different on the inside.

Their always blaming each other for their problems which is most the time true. Dont really like each other.
I think in this story, white people and black people were segragated for the most part. This was around the same time period as Martin Luther King.

Segregation is taking place. White people get to live in better, nicer homes and communities. Blacks are treated horribly still just in sneaky ways.
